Clear Skies Ltd is a multi-award-winning startup founded in 2022. It was the first of a new generation of research integrity services focused on tackling widespread dishonesty in research.
Clear Skies showed that organised research fraud (also known as papermills) was a far bigger problem than was generally understood and went on to prove the market for papermill detection as a service. The Papermill Alarm was the first AI-based tool for research fraud detection, later incorporating the first author checks based on network analysis and the first commercially available citation network analysis for fraud detection.
Clear Skies also established the current accepted estimate for the scale of the problem, reported in Nature News in 2023.

In 2024, the Papermill Alarm won the ALPSP Award for innovation and received an award at the Vesalius Innovation Awards.
On 1 January 2025, Clear Skies officially launched Oversight, the first index of research integrity. Oversight received the inaugural Gold EPIC Award for integrity tools presented by the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP).
